La situación en India es crítica

El Ministerio de Salud indicó a través de su cuenta que en el último día se notificaron 259.170 casos y 1.761 decesos, lo que sitúa los totales en 15.321.089 y 180.530, respectivamente

India registró este martes 1.700 muertos por coronavirus en las últimas 24 horas, la máxima cifra diaria desde el inicio de la pandemia, con lo que el país asiático supera la barrera de los 180.000 fallecidos.

El Ministerio de Salud indicó a través de su cuenta en la red social Twitter que en el último día se notificaron 259.170 casos y 1.761 decesos, lo que sitúa los totales en 15.321.089 y 180.530, respectivamente.

De esta forma se afianza como el segundo país del mundo con más positivos totales, detrás de Estados Unidos, y cuarto en cuanto a cantidad de muertos por el virus.

El epicentro del repunte de las últimas semanas es el estado de Maharashtra, donde se encuentra la ciudad de Bombay, que acumula cerca de un tercio de los casos activos, si bien la situación es igualmente preocupada en la capital, Nueva Delhi, que el lunes inició un confinamiento de seis días para intentar contener la propagación del virus.

En este sentido, el ministro principal de Nueva Delhi, Arvind Kejriual, advirtió que “el sistema sanitario está en un punto de no retorno”.

“No diré que colapsó, pero la situación es bastante crítica”, dijo citado por la agencia de noticias Europa Press, después de confirmar cifras máximas de contagios durante los últimos días.

“Siempre estuve en contra del confinamiento. Creo que esa medida no pondrá fin al virus, pero reducirá la tasa de contagio”, argumentó.

“Nos dará tiempo para aumentar nuestras infraestructuras. Usaremos este confinamiento de una semana para mejorar nuestro sistema de salid”, destacó. El país, de 1.300 millones de habitantes, viene registrando más de 200.000 casos diarios desde hace una semana.

La crítica situación en India llevó al primer ministro británico, Boris Johnson, a cancelar su viaje oficial a ese país previsto para finales de abril.

El Reino Unido decidió además prohibir el ingreso de viajeros procedentes de su excolonia, a excepción de ciudadanos británicos y residentes.
